Thomasville, NC: When we left you last time, it was in preparation for the 20th Annual
Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals (August 5-7). Since then
the Mark Burch Motorsports crew has made some changes and come back with
the magic!
Chad Humston was the tenth car out to qualify, setting quick time
with 15.875 seconds on Thursday (the first night of the 360 Nationals).
Chad raced his way through the rest of the evening, placing second in
his heat and brining home third place in the A-Main. He went to sleep
leading the evening with 493 points.
When it came time for the twenty-five lap, final, A-Main feature
event on Saturday evening, it was Chad Humston and the Engler Machine
and Tool #1M sitting in the pole position. It turned out to be a night
of some unfortunate racer’s luck for the Mark Burch Motorsports, Chad
Humston Racing team. As the field came out of turn four, preparing for
lap thirteen, something appeared to loosen up on the #1M. Fatefully the
team would have to call it a weekend. “There was a saying that says
something like you only being as good as your last race, and
unfortunately our last race was a DNF and we aren’t very proud of that. I
don’t know what you do to keep a bolt from shearing off, but we have
made some changes so that we have four bolts sharing the load, instead
of two.” Owner Mark Burch had to say.
Last week the Mark Burch Motorsports, Chad Humston Racing team made
their way to Boone County Raceway in Albion , Nebraska , to shake down
their “Black Magic” car before making their way to Mid-Nebraska Speedway
on Saturday. Friday night’s hot laps at Boone County Raceway gave the
team something to smile about as they showed up to an “awesomely
prepared track”, according to Chad . The team found a set up that would
give them a 12.949 second lap time in hot laps. After some practice they
were ready for the rest of the evening. Chad started second row outside
for his heat and finished it with the win. His heat race win put him in
tenth for the A-main and after a great race; he brought home a solid
win. “Nothing like a win to get the boys firing on all eight cylinders
again!” Chad said of the night.
After a night like that you can bet the team was ready for
Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan , Nebraska . “More fuel for the soul.
It was another dominating performance and it put Chad and the “Black
Magic” #1M, chocolate covered banana wagon, in victory lane for the
seventh time this season. Our assessment of the track changing from
choppy to slick to rubber down was correct. Our Mark Burch Motorsports
Engler Fuel Injected engine was singing and our Wolfweld Chassis was on
rails.” A happy Mark Burch said.
Although in the last month there have been some obvious ups and
downs, the Mark Burch Motorsports, Chad Humston Racing team has picked
up and they’re ready to keep the momentum going. They will be bringing
“Black Magic” back at Knoxville Raceway this Saturday. Be sure to get
out there and cheer them on!
